Conveying Values - Cubes
An individual Project based on how a product is perceived by the consumer, with a brief restricted to designing only a cube.
Two cubes were designed, one which must be perceived as “Light in weight and Natural” (left) the other “Dependable and Reliable” (right).
What makes the cube “Dependable and Reliable”?
-Using metal faces and a metal frame creates both physical weight percieved weight. Weight is also usually associated with a dependable and reliable product.
-I have used rivets to assemble the cube as rivets are usually used in manufacturing for permanent assembly putting faith that the cube does not need to be taken apart.
-Rubber edges will be used to frame the cube and increase percieved durability of the cube.
-As a finish I would use a brushed effect as this will contrast the shine of the rivets and also hide scratches meaning it can be depended upon for much longer
What makes the cube “Lightweight and Natural”?
-To make it lightweight it was always my intention to make the cube hollow.
-I originally wanted to make the cube out of caramel coloured blue, unfortunately it did not work so I resorted back to using hot glue.
-The concept is to have a cube that is representing a moment in time of a raindrop hitting a puddle and formed into the cube. This represents a natural occurrence in a natural environment sealed in time.
