CDIO Project 4 - Solenoid Spool Valve
This current project is engineer based but I felt comfortable in the design knowing it was only about cost and how we could reduce cost for manufacturing it has been a good project to work on and produced a working valve after the Easter break.
Working in teams of 3, myself and two engineers we produced a technical dossier including engineering drawings, assembly drawings and costing information. We proved what our valve would cost to produce 10,000 units and how to manufacture as well as showing it would not fail by running simulations.
I took the role of producing the valve in CAD to create drawings and run simulations. It was my role to ensure that the valve was designed accurately and ready to be manufactured.
We were supplied with a list of standard parts to use within our valves and had to design around them also understating how machinery was going to be used in a way where our valves would be produced ensuring we didn" t make impossible features on the CAD drawings.
We also had to understand the process involved in creating parts, creating names and serial codes for them and ensuring that the entire design met British Standards.
We will be testing our valves in May once we have had the parts back from the machine shop and assembled them.
